remove heater hose from block 900

I have a 1995 non turbo 945.. i got the two heater hoses for replacement (original hoses with 70 K on car) from fcp groton. I know from the bd here to be very careful removing the hoses from the firewall. My question... the lower hose with the heater control valve(which I also purchased) looks awful tight where it connects to the block between 3 and 4 intake. It looks like the best way to approach this is from the passenger side leaning directly over the connection?? Remove the flame trap to give myself more room and the brake booster hose near the firewall to work there??? Any and all "pearls" on this replacement are appreciated..thanks guys.. (the rest of the coolant system is also being replaced)...JOHN
