Rattling gearchange knob - fixed 200 1988

Apropos some recent discussion.

The problem is that the rubber sleeve gets cracked and loose and does not fit over the plastic core snugly. My solution was Araldite. I put a cork in the white plastic core (I have an M47 with no O/D switch, if you have an M46 the cork is easy to drill out) and filled up the gap with the resin, massaging it into the cracks. The knob now has a very solid feel.

As it turns out, the reverse lockout sleeve also rattles - now I have to deal with that.

George
