Bad Air Mass Meter??? 200

Hi Guys,
I'm having trouble with my '86 244. My mechanic and i think it might be something to do with the air mass meter. When all the wires are plugged into the AMM the car wont run. When you unplug the AMM, the car runs and idles fine. Is the Air Mass Meter bad? I have an '82 245 sitting. I know that they are 2 different engines (B21 & B23), but was wondering if the wagon's AMM would work in my 244. I'm sure a few of you fellas can help me out here.
