The role of the radiator cap in cooling the car 200 1983

I had my oil changed on my DL at one of those nationally-branded 10-minute oil, lube, and filter places that checks all of your fluids.

I guess one of the fluids check is the radiator fluid, since the printout came back with a "recommend changing the radiator cap."

I just wonder how one might surmise this, absent the necessary equipment needed to pressure-test a radiator cap in the first place?
