Sunroof Problem 700

The electrically operated sunroof on my 740 recently made some unhealthy sounding noises and is now obviously in need of repair as the roof panel is catty-wampus in the opening. The passenger side won't come up flush and the drivers side sticks up slightly above the surrounding roof. The vent section will neither open nor close fully and until it does, the whole sunroof won't even begin to retract to the rear. I searched the threads for sunroof repair and found a troubleshooting section that talks about removing the electric motor to get at the mechanism. I removed the two phillips machine screws in the rear of the motor and the 10mm nut at the front. The motor does not seem to want to come out - it seems it is still secured to the mechanism near the rear where the actuator shaft is. I didn't want to force it, so am looking for some guidance from someone who has been through this before.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
