poor performance when cold 200 1986

I have an '86 240 with fuel injection that does not run properly until it is up to normal operating temperature. I have replaced the coolant sensor without results. The car misses and backfires when it is operated cold, as soon as it is up to temperature - it runs without trouble.
does anyone have any ideas?
