Check that airbox flapper! 200

This has probably been mentioned before but........Just wanted to suggest to those wondering about poor performance and gas mileage that they check the hot air diverter flapper in their 240s airbox. This flapper is temperature sensitive and is supposed to divert the warm air from the exhaust manifold to the airbox when you first start up on those cold mornings (emissions reduction etc)These do fail with great regularity and always seem to do so in position that dumps the hot air from the exhaust manifold into the airbox at all times. This is no good for the AMM and is not the recipe for performance or gas mileage. I actually disabled my broken flapper and sealed the hot air opening on my airbox but don't tell the feds. My 86 240 auto wagon usually (it has been in no start mode this weekend) runs very nicely with good power up those hills and about 20 mpg in stop and go DC traffic / city driving. Check those boxes!!!
