Automatic lockup fails at higher temperature 900 1995

My 940 SE Turbo Estate (165k miles) automatic transmission top gear lockup normally engages at about 60mph. In hot weather after the car has warmed up, lockup fails to engage. Is this a serious problem? Any clues gratefully received.
