kickdown cable question

After the transmission warms up, it takes a long time to shift from 1st to 2nd.
The shift is also rough.
I adjusted the kickdown cable. THat helped for a short while, but now its doing the same things again.

I disconnected the kickdown. Now the transmission shifts smooth. But there is no pick up in 1st gear. I have to manually shift down to get any pick up.

Whats going on here? Is there something wrong with the tranny? Or do I need a new kickdown cable? Or what?

Thanks

Lawrence
