Fiberglass patch kits?? 200 1984

I removed the roof rack and side trim from my 245 and need a way to fill the holes in.
I don't want that kit from ipd because it leaves small plastic bumps and I'm going for a shaved look.
Should I use some kind of fiberglass sheets to cover these holes and then sand them down to paint?

P.S. I may sell the roofrack if anyone is looking for one, it is complete and in good shape...just needs cleaning
