DIY breakout box for observing live ECU signals? 200

A recent exchange on how the ECT sends signals to the ECU brought up the subject of the use of a break out box to do ECU diagnostic work. Basically, it consists of a connector that goes between the ECU and the harness and sends the same signals to a seperate box with all the pins seperated nicely so individual voltages, waveforms, etc. can be monitored while the engine is running. I'm certainly no electronics expert, but it does seem in the realm of possibilities for a DIYer. Anyone ever make one of these, or have any thoughts on this?
