sway bar link replacement questions 200

In my never-ending quest to rid my ride of front end clunks, I am replacing my sway bar links (also called anti-roll bar links and/or stabilizer bars) and all of their bushings this weekend. It looks like a simple thing I can do with the tire off, and no need to get an alignment done afterwards. Is there anything funky I need to worry about, like supporting the front end with a jack or something? Also, how tight do I tighten the nuts/bolts? Do I have to tighten this under load, like with the control arm bushings, or can I tighten them with the car still on the jack? I assume I probably want to tighten them with the steering wheel at dead center.....
