VOLVO 740 FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS 700 1989

My 1989 Volvo 740 GLE has done 150,000 miles. I have owned it since May 2001.

I gave it a full service last week and checked the bearing caps on the front wheel bearings to see if they needed any more grease.

To my surprise there was no trace of grease in the bearing caps: they were completely clean and have never had grease in them.

The Haynes manual says that the bearing caps need to be packed half-full with grease.

Is Haynes correct?

How has the car covered 150,000 miles without grease in the bearing caps?
