AC on and temp gauge goes down? 700

Turned on my front window defroster tonight I noticed the temp gauge went from 12 o clock to about 11 o clock. Turn the defrost off and it went back to 12. I've never seen this happen before on my car. My defrost usually turns on the AC and it did that as usual tonight. Only difference I can think of is that I switch the ac condensor fan with a 16" Zirgo fan. Not sure if it turned on or not though. Is this normal behavior?? something wrong?
