The AC in my '80 245 has never worked as long as I've owned the car. When the family got it back in '89, the previous owners said they had never really used it them selves. I have no reason to believe they did (it came from a pretty cold climate)...
So as far as I know, this thing hasn't worked since sometime in the mid 80's.
I've done the compressor tests, and nothing can make the system "Clack!" like it should.
I just replaced the heater motor back in November. I'm hoping I won't have to go back in there if I don't have to.
At this point, I'm thinking the whole system has to be replaced. I can get any parts pretty cheap from a Volvo recycler in town, including a "new" compressor.
If I'm going to replace the system though, I figure now would be a good time to do the R134 conversion.
My questions. I know the compressor is pretty heavy, but aside from that, is it easy to remove and replace?
Once that is done, What is involved in doing the R134 retrofit?
If I'm going to do the retrofit, should I look for a different compressor altogether?
Thanks.
