Where is the Variable orifice tube? 700

Last summer I went and re-did a/c, upgraded to r-134. It worked, but not that well.

This summer after having the refridgerant leak out, I decided to replace the Fixed orfice tube with VOT. I can't find the damn thing! I thought I replaced it last year with one that came with kit, but when I took the line off the evaporator-to-receiver/dryer I couldn't find it! That is where it should be,
on the passenger side line of evaporator?

I do have other work to do on it, o-rings, check condenser, check lines, etc., but this is embarrassing! I know I put one in!! Anyway where is the @$#$@%@ thing.
Help!
