washer tank interchangeability 200 1981

I used a picture of my car a couple years ago to best illustrate the wiper tank. I did find the car much nicer with the engine bay looking a little more like this

I have no idea what that ribbing on that pipe was for. It is a cast al pipe, not just the thin wall stuff, and does have a Volvo symbol and part number cast into it. I found it on a junkyard 84 244T with no intercooler. I'm assuming that it was intended as a very very tiny intercooler, but I'm betting it just acts as one pretty looking heat sink.
Good luck intercooling. Its fun, and certainly nice.
