240 bypassing the idiot bulb out idiot light???

Hello Paul:

I take it you are worried about the "bulb out" light when trailering. I just finished wiring my trailer harness last night, so I think I can help:

To avoid "bulb out" light problems, wire into circuits that aren't in the "bulb out" loop.

Buy a 4 wire + ground harness with either solid state or analog relays. For the wire going to "brake" (red wire), run a line from the back along the driver's side up to the brake pedal area. Tap into the switched side of the brake light switch (on my '92 245 it was blue w/ red stripe). This is before the "bulb out" relay, so it won't be a problem. For the taillight wire, tap into the rear license plate light, which is a white wire in the bundle that runs up from the spare tire well into the driver's side rear pillar. Just cut carefully through the sheathing with a razor blade. This circuit is also outside the "bulb out" loop. Wire the other wires in the usual manner. This worked like a charm on my '92!

Wiring out the "bulb out" can is probably more work than doing it right...

Let me know if you need more info!

P.S. Got any leads on where I could get the two huge M14-2.0 x 120mm 8.8 fasteners that hold the factory hitch on?
