Hot ignition coil 140-160

There is 14 volts at the battery with the car running, 14 volts at the positive side of the coil. There is an internal ballast present in the coil. Dumped the points and installed the Pertronix ignition. Something still is not right.

One good thing is my father in law is taking this on as a personal challenge to his diagnostic skills. In the process he is learning about Volvos and is beginning to appreciate their design. While I was at work he found my pile of spares I've collected from the U pull it and tried replacing all sorts of relays and other parts. He's read the Haynes manual nearly cover to cover.

I have to go to Boston with my wife for 5 days so we'll see what he comes up with when we get back. I'll let you all know later. Thanks for the tips.
