Rear floor light - 245 200 1988

Our 1988 245 had a munched parking brake cover; I found, repainted, and installed a new one. The bulb in the little white light (above the seat belt warning one) was burned out; I replaced it. So far so good. I had expected the light to illuminate when the car's interior (dome) light was on, or, perhaps, when one of the rear doors were open...but it didn't. The bulb is good. I shrugged and let it go.

But last night, I happened to notice that the light illuminated when the headlights are on. That seems pretty strange, and suggests that whatever wire feeds the light is, somehow, misconnected up under the dash somewhere.

Anyone run into this one?

(You 're *entirely correct* that I'm posting this to avoid trying to figure out the Bentley wiring diagram!)
