Volvo OEM radiator vs. Nissen 900

In reading a post on the "Opinion" board I noticed the following message posted to a 900 driver regarding his recent purchase of a car;

"Since you said it is a 940 and not a 960, no mistake. Maybe it has the aluminum and plastic radiator, but getting one of those re-tanked is a lot less exspensive than getting a steel & copper raidator re-cored. Plus the plastic/alumimum one has a much higher heat transfer coefficient."

The advisability of swapping out the original plastic and aluminum radiator for a fresh unit right around the 10 year milestone is well documented on the forum. My question is what to replace it with? The above comment is the first one I've read that suggests that the Volvo radiator might be better than an aftermarket one at cooling the car. What say ye all? Nissen, Volvo or ...?

Also, my '94 only has 82k miles on it. Can I wait a year or so before replacing it? Is the failure/embrittlement mainly age related or mileage related? I never replaced the radiators in any of my previous 240's ('86, '89 '92) and none of them ever failed. Was I just lucky?

Thanks,

Markus
