be careful squirting water in your engine compartment. If you have mogwais, they can turn into full fledged gremlins real quick...

On a more serious note, check the sides of your belts for brazing. If one side of your belts is shiny and smooth, it may be time for new belts. Check the tension on all of them (deflection is an easy method), tighten as necessary (or loosen, possibly) and get a can of belt dressing (use as directed on can). If the noise still persists, go buy some new belts, they aren't that expensive. After you remove the current belts, check all the pulleys for looseness, signs of wear, and listen for bearing damage. Your a/c clutch may have locked up and burned out, your water pump may be on it's way out and check your alternator for caged bearings. Check all accessory mounts for looseness and tighten up as necessary. Sometimes the insulated alternator mounting bolts can vibrate a little loose, and can also cause a charging issue.
