Painting soon. Should I remove the black tape under side windows? 200 1991

My tape is in fairly good shape except for the driver's door that has a small tear in it. Now, I like the way the tape looks on the car and if I were to remove it before painting, I doubt I could replace it (If my experience with model cars as a child is any guide, I suck at putting on decals) and it seems almost impossible to put underneath the window trim.

Should I just leave it in place? What have you all done?

Thanks,

Ruben
