240 1988 Odometer does not work.... how difficult is it to change out?

I have the same problem, odometer doesn't work, speedometer does. Are these repair instructions posted anywhere? No Volvo dealer within 100 miles. It would help if I could give the mechanic some guidance. Alternatively, there is a place 100 miles away that repairs these units. What has to be removed to get to the part that needs repair? If the odometer is broken, does that mean the speedometer will give out soon? I looked in the Bentley book, to no avail.
