What is it about Volvo A/C that just doesn't work well? 200

Maybe it's a pre 90s European thing. I had a 1980 320i that had a pitiful AC system. The mini-York compressor was up to the task, good cold air, but very little volume. The dealer's service department said it was normal as the AC was almost an afterthought for us "soft" Americans. He said that AC didn't improve until they took a couple German engineers and made them drive around the desert southwest for a few weeks in the middle of the summer.

Don't know if that was true, but that's what a service writer told me. Made a good humorous story, anyway...
