Car is Not Starting and the Father-in-Law is Pissed; Help...Please...Help... 700 1985

1985 744GLE. Car was running poorly and was cutting out intermittently; it would lose power and then finally die. Now, it does not start. Well, it starts, for about a second, and then dies. I have checked the fuel pump relay (replaced it), changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter, and even tested the in-tank pre-pump (it works). It has spark. I am at a total loss. What could this be? It sounds as if it will stay on, but dies immediately after start-up. Any relays I could be missing? It has been acting strangely for months; when it would stall out (very infrequently) my girlfriend would simply start it up again and the problem wouldn't persist. Now, I don't know; after all that work, I've still got nothing. Any suggestions are welcome, as I can't find anything pertinent to my situation on the FAQ. Thanks.
