Has anyone run their AW-70 transmission with synthetic fluid in extreme cold (-20F)? 200 1983

Has anyone run full synthetic fluid in their AW-70? In very cold temps last winter I experienned hard shifting, and hesitation/abruptness engaging from a start. I was running regular dino ATF. I have read full synthetic is superior both in the engine and transmission when the temps drop well below zero- like it does here in North Dakota for 4 months a year!
