Dodgy warning lights-time to bite the bullet 900

Despite replacement of ignition switch and voltage regulator the panel warning lights continue to plague me. Rapping the instument console sometimes gets them on (as does humid weather!) so it must be a loose connector or tear in the flex board of the console.
It is now time to remove the console.
I know the location of the fixing screws thanks to the Brickboard but not how to get at them. FAQ suggests this is a dealer job yet there are reports of people getting to the lights.
The first tricky bit is getting the wood trim off. This is done "carefully".
Lowering the steering column and attacking the trim from the side with a slim screwdriver may be an option.
I cannot figure out how to remove the chrome and black plastic trim that wraps around the dashboard. Any ideas? I was thinking of visiting my friendly guys at Volvo Nazareth, PA and having look at the exploded parts diagram for the dash.

Thanks again,

Dan
