Worth getting this 242gt??? 200 1979

I have been looking for a good 242gt for my first car for a while now and, as i am sure many of you know, they are quite difficult to come by. i found a 1979 242gt with a 1989 B230F engine in it. it looked superb and went quite nicely (although i do not have much to compare it to as it is th first 242 i have driven). the body had only a few bits of minor surface rust but it the paint etc is in very good condition. i am not a mechanic so i got one to look at it and he said the wiring was not good and pointed a few things out with the engine that needed to be fixed. i do not know the exact details as i get the full report tomorrow. i do not really know what this car is worth but the mechanic said it would take about 50hrs labour to get to perfect condition. the guy is asking approx U.S$1900.
i was wondering how much of the wiring i could do myself, not being an expert. so as to cut down on the labour costs which would be considerable. all up if i bought the car and got it fixed by a proper mechanic it would cost around US$3800 plus parts. is that too much.
it is a very cool car and if i had half a brain i would let it go, i just have not seen one in this condition before (aestheticly, that is).
thanks for your advice!
