Is it possible to add an OD to an Auto? 200 1977

For whatever foolish reason, my 1977 244 has an automatic transmission. It has 3 speeds, and no overdrive.

With the price of gas going up, this car is getting very expensive to drive. My highway mileage is horrible when compared to my '80 with a M-47.

I know later 240 autos had some kind of added Overdrive. What would it involve to add to an older transmission that doesn't originally have it?

Although I don't plan on doing this, is it possible to just grab a used auto transmission from a later model 240 with OD, and just hook it in? (I know there are some additional relays and such.) The switch over to a M-47 is too involved for my liking.

Thanks.
