low voltage ?? 700

Is it typical that the volt meter on my instrumentation panel usually runs in the lower half (less than 14 volts)? I know that the alternator applies a charge voltage of 14+ volts, but do the volt meters on the dash tend to read low?

With the lights on at night it even runs closer to 11-12 volts.

What sort of effect does a low battery/dodgy alternator have on the performance of a 740 turbo? Where and when will would you feel the effect the most? accelerating? cruising?

I have yet to get the time to replace the cable clamps. They are both somewhat corroded and the wires going into the positive clamp are looking sketchy....I plan on cutting them back a little.

Thanks
