Cassette eating tapes - can I help it stop ??

I had placed a post a week or so back about replacing my wifes CR-814 with same item found at a swap meet. She came back and said that it would jump from A to B - back and forth.

Well, I went and picked up a Maxell cassette cleaner - and yes - it does jump back and forth - but mainly it eats tapes. It even tried to eat the Maxell cleaner tape.

I am thinking that I can take it all apart and clean the capstan and rollers - and should have it licked.

Any thing else I should look for while I have it out?? Someone mentioned to look for a bent part of some sort.

EDIT: I just went back and read some of the later replies to my other post. I will try those - and hope that maybe someone will have had personal experience with this problem.

Thanks,
Andrew in AL
