Power Steering 200 1988

The power steering was shuddering and there was a pool of fluid under the car. I thought the worst but hoped otherwise so I refilled the reervoir with powering stop leak and,lo and behold ,the shuddering stopped and it is now losing about 2 drops overnight. What's the explanation? Will it fail suddenly?
