m 46 overdrive compatability swap from 83 gas to 84 diesel 200

I am in the process of fixing my ailing tranny.
I have a Diesel(84 wagon) M-46 tranny that is not going into reverse propery ( prior post)
I have located a good trany unit complete from flywheel to last u-joint on the driveshaft.
Question is: is the overdrive unit swapable with the main trans unit.
I understand that the diesel tranny is not mountable on the gas engine( is this correct?) because of the starter mounting location, but I am assuming the the overdrive is swapable-

Anyone have any idea...
