Would a bad spark plug cause the car to run a bit sluggish? 200 1980

The other day, my '80 245 backfired on me. It has never happened before, and it wasn't big, but it has me concerned.

Usually, people say a backfire is the result of bad spark plugs. Is this true?

Also, the car has kind of been running sluggish since it backfired. It was very slight at first, but now I'm starting to notice it a bit more. It still has good power in 1st, but it takes longer to accelerate in 2nd. I can floor it in second, and the engine RPM doesn't go up all that much, and the car doesn't accelerate that much faster... I think the 2 are related. Any one else have ideas?

I figure I'll just renew all 4 plugs to be safe.

Oh yeah, how hard is it to replace engine seals?

Thanks all.
