how to jump relay for aux cooling fan? 200 1993

the aux cooling fan does not come on when the engine is hot...temp guage rose close to red line in Wash DC traffic and aux fan did not come on. could it be a fried relay? I located it and it has 4 wires running to it.2 large red ones and 2 smaller tan ones. I figure the 2 red ones carry the current when the 2 smaller ones make the connection wherever they connect to the sending unit.
I want to make the fan come on manually. Should I just rig up a switch to the 2 tan wires so that they connect and make the fan blow air across the rad when stalled in heavy traffic.
C.Herbst, what say you?
thanks for any sugestions,
el Raidman
