Brick??????? 200

Please please please forgive my ignorance here, but why are they referd to as bricks???? Is it in " as solid as a ????" or what ? now i give you that my 84 black cherry 245gtl does resemble a dark red brick slightly....but it goes much faster, at least when i have the time and it is running well. right now i am back to the rough idle problem and slight hesitation on the rev up from idle and acceleration. i cant seem to hear the frequency valve.....could this be THE problem or are there other things leading to that? or would the car not run at all without it? it is a turbo with the CI fuel injection and the hard to get your hands on at a regular parts store oval air filter....(i am going to get a k&n for it i swear. i love the car and miss driving it to work, any help would be gratly appreciated here. its got to be something simple that my wracked brain is just overlooking......thanks to all bricksters that reply and the rest of you just for thinking about the problem :o)
