Auto Transmission shifter button 200 1983

I have a 1983 244GL auto and the top black button keeps popping off and was luck to catch the spring from going out the open sunroof. Is there a way that this can stay put, maybe shoot a bit of gorilla glue on the button bottom oriface that the metal shifter tip slips into. I don't want to drive without this button attached, because I beleive it's a safty button that keeps the shifter from accidentally going into reverse or the lowest gears by the driver. Or do I need a new button (where could I buy), the spring is still good.

Thanks,
Waldo
