89 740 #3 injector not firing consistantly 700

My friend who is not a Volvo Mechanic is having a problem with a 740 he is working on. Sometimes the # 3 injector is not firing. The injector itself has been cleaned and tested and the fault appears to be in the wiring or the processor. Any suggestions?
