running well, why bad gas mileage? 700 1988

I have a 1988 760 GLE 6 Cyl that is getting 10 mpg at 50 MPh. I am new to Volvo but this seems low. Runs like a top and the wheels turn any suggestions on what to check first?

Thanks to all. I bought this car with a fried dash wireing harness and got it running again thanks to a friendly Volvo tech and this board!
