How disengage the ABS system in the 760 Turbo? 700 1986

Recurent problems with the ABS system of my old work horse has prompted me to seek a way to disengage the whole system altogether. I once tried to do so by disconnecting both fornt wheel sensors with alarming consequences.Is there a way to safely disable the ABS in this model?
