the 164 chronicles, vol IV: Insult and Injury 140-160

ok, i called a mechanic in town, apparently they're the 'premiere' volvo mechanic in orlando. so this guy tells me that my fuel injection points may be fried or dirty, located on th ebottom of the distributor, i check that out. i take off the dist cap, rotor, and little plastic cover for the distributor. the top screw in the distributor goes to a resistor(?) or a battery, or a little motor. on the same plane as this, there's a little bar that looks almost like it blew, brown residue all around it. so i move on to the bottom screws on the distributor. the screws came out, and this god-awful looking contraption comes out too. i'll post a picture later this evening when i get home(stupid web proxy) but in a nutshell, it plugs in to something, and there are 2 arms that go around the shaft in the distributor. from what we could tell, it looks like the shaft has a hexagonal shape to it, and when it turns, it hits each of the arms, and causes some pulse to go thru the distributor, or the injection rail(?) all i know is, i'm lost. i was told to clean this thing, and i'm not sre how to, or if i even should. i think i'm going to get a new dist. cap, rotor and points just to be on the safe side, beyond that, i have no idea. any input?
