Haunted 740-T 700 1989

Here's a weird one (to me anyway)
Just fixed a headpipe gasket leak on my 89 740-T sedan. Turbo now boosting like it should. Driving home, car had been running for 40 minutes or so- going up a really steep hill I decided to test the turbo- really got on it going up the hill. When I got to the top, I noticed the car was shaking, idle was rough.....every time I stepped on the gas, the car would "grind" and shake as it accelerated. Pulled over, same thing - rev it up and the car would shake and sound really rough. Opened hood and hit by a heat wave although the temp gauge was reading normal (suspect that was just heat off the turbo?) Coolant was fine, not gurgling (even though I do have a really slow leak off the water pump seal), oil fine..... Anyway- sent back on a flat-bed, left it over night and now we can't get it to do it again- just as if nothing ever happened. What the heck is going on? All ideas appreciated! -J-Dog
