runs crappy when cold 700

Hey Guys,
How is everyone. Been awhile since my last post, but I am back now :)
I have a question for anyone. My 87 Volvo 740Tic wagon runs rough and stalls when I first get in it in the morning. It has bad throtle responce. Once she gets moving it runs great. Any ideas?
Next is that everytime I shut it off and jump back in a few mins later, my check engine light stays on for about 1-2mins the goes out and stays out. Any possible relation? I do not know how to pull up any codes. and do not have a digital multimeter either.
Next question is that I poped the hood the other nite after a little bit of a high speed run down the highway and noticed that my exaust mainfold had a slight cherry glow to it. Now I am not new to engines but I do know that if timming is out that this can happen. I dont think that this is the case. Seems to run too smooth for this, but who knows. What should the timming be? Plan to check it tommorrow. Also am buying a real boost gauge too. To be sure that its not way too high or something.
I also have my high pressure pump wired on a toggle switch. I do not have any power to the pump any other way. Someone told me that there have been problems with the ecu that you can lose part of it that controls the hi pressure pump. Is this possible? And am I hurting anything running it the way I am?
Last but not least, Do any of the sensors that I may need to check/replace interchange with a 91 740GL?? I know where the is a parts car at.
I know this is a lot, I a preciate any input.
Thanks,
~Rich
