approx 3,100 at 65 mph in 4th (overdrive) 200 1989

On my '84 240 with 4-speed (a.k.a., overdrive) automatic transmission, a full throttle acceleration shifts up from 3 into 4th at about 70 mph. At this change, the rpms drop aporoximately 900 rpm (it's rough to be exact, because I've got the small (52mm) tach), down to about 3,100 rpm (again not precise). But that 65-70 mph at ~3,500 rpm is the rough ballpark estimate of rpm in 4th (overdrive). If you're close to that, you're definitely in 4th! It's quite a big difference between this gear and 3rd, where you would be at well over 4,000, maybe half way to 5,000. {again numbers are only approximate because of my small scale tach).
Hope this helped.
