Valve Clearance Adjustment 1800 1973

I’m trying to adjust the valve clearance on my 1973 1800ES. My Hanes book tells me what clearance is needed and what order to check/adjust in. My question is what order are the valves? The book says to check and adjust the No 1 valve when No 8 is fully open: No 3 when No 6, No 5 when No 4 and so on. In what order do the valves follow? I don’t want to screw this up, it’s late here in Washington and my only reliable contact is out. Please help me. (Sorry about the sh*t posting I meant SHIFTER. I still don’t know where to get that clip by the way.) Thanks again guys.
