whats the sensor on the joint between the breather hose and the inlet hose on a b230ft 900

to clarify...

the long crank breather hose that comes over the head joins the inlet hose to the turbo, it joins via a plastic fitting that has a cable pluged into it...

now as far as i can SEE this is just s straight thru hole....perhaps it shouldnt be...but it is...

what is this sensor, whats the effect of it being non-operational and how do you test it?

of course he volvo gnomes may just have thrown a connection/cable in to confuse us all!
