After reading the thread about jacking the engine to change motor mounts of last Friday I decided it was about time to change out the mounts in my car. Perfect time for it, too. The car is already up on jack stands with the steering rack removed (I sent it off to be rebuilt). And I've had the new mounts laying around for several months. And I just happen to have an engine crane on loan. So using the crane instead of a jack and employing the technique of loosening the various fasteners but only removing one mount at a time I was able to make quick work of it. In fact on the right side I didn't even take off the bracket that fits up to the block. I was prepared to remove the oil filter if I had to but I tried it without and was able to make the change although it would have been just that much easier with the filter off.
After seeing the condition of the old mounts I wish I had done this sooner. Both of them has separated at the top.

I guess this is the common condition after 100,000 miles. It also explains why the engine rocked so much when idling. I'm anxious to get the rack back and installed. I think I will have finally eliminated the annoying lug that happens when I step on or let off the accelerator. Rebuilding the driveshaft lessened that effect. Replacing the rear suspension bushings made it only slightly noticable. This should pretty much eliminate it altogether, I hope. It'll be a week before the rack is returned. In the meantime I need to change the clutch/pilot bearing so I might as well replace the tranny mount.
Thanks to those who contributed to the aformentioned thread. It made this repair a lot easier.
