Intermittent turbo problems 700 1990

I have recently acquired a 1990 740 turbo and have experienced an intermittent problem of losing power once the engine moves into the yellow turbo boost range. Consistently, the problem can be "solved" by turning the engine off and then starting it again. Unfortunately, I can never predict when the problem will occur. A mechanic who looked at it was unable to find any trouble with the turbo bearings, and ignition problems are not suspected, as we recently had plug wires, etc... changed.

Anyone had similar problems with this model? Thanks.
