back hatch interior 700 1987

Got my repair kit at the dealer for less than $15. It takes longer to take the hatch apart and put back together than the actual repair takes. Very easy to do repair. Pop the trim piece off around the handle. Small flat screw driver gently prying around the edges and it will release. Remove two phillips screws that hold a plastic bracket on. 1/4 turn the 4 locking plastic clips at the bottom of the panel and pull outward. Lift up on the panel and release it from the upper clips. They are 4 black clips that slide into grooves on the hatch.
Disconnect the brake light connector (pinch the sides and pull apart).
The repair pieces are easy to bend the tabs with you fingers to rap around the area that they attach to. Install the screws to hold the repair pieces. Reinstall the black clips that are on the top of the hatch cover. Plug the brake light connector back together. Also make sure the rubber O-ring is installed correctly around the center brake light. Line up the panel with the upper clips, press the panel against the tabs and smack area where the four tabs are into the repaired holes with your hand. Reinstall the 4 clips at the bottom of the panel. Smack the top again to make sure the upper clips are engaged properly. There are metal tabs on the hatch that need to be under the panel to keep it tight at the top. So make sure they are not showing at the top edge of the panel. How I know this is I fixed mine last night.
